What is Cost Sharing?
Have you ever received a bill from a medical appointment that shows the cost of a service, the amount your insurance paid, and you are billed for the remaining “patient responsibility” portion? This is cost sharing.
Although lactation care is a preventative service, most appointments include a “problem”. For this reason, some insurances consider part of the appointment as a specialist appointment that will go towards your deductible. Unfortunately, it is considered insurance fraud if cost-sharing is not collected, and we cannot waive this.
For Aetna, we anticipate a cost sharing fee of approximately $60.
For Tricare, we anticipate a cost sharing fee of $11 for the initial appointment.
There is typically no cost sharing fees for UHC/ BCBS/ Cigna.
Do you charge a travel fee?
Yes, it is 50$ and not reimbursable by insurance.
Whose insurance do the appointments go under?
For prenatal appointments, visits are billed under the pregnant mothers insurance.
For postpartum appointments, both mother and baby’s insurance are billed. I will be assessing and guiding both you and your baby!
If you and baby have different insurances, each insurance will be billed separately. If only one is covered under an insurance that I am in-network with, the additional cost for the not-covered party is $150. I will provide a superbill for potential insurance reimbursement.
